  • In 2018, Vallarta Breeze Yoga emerged in the vibrant heart of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, founded by a dedicated couple and yoga instructors, Jai and Manuel. Initially, attendance was sparse, with only a few students per class. However, momentum grew, and by the eve of the COVID-19 pandemic, the studio was thriving, with Jai leading four or five packed classes each day, including group sessions, online classes, and private lessons.

The pandemic’s onset necessitated a pivot to exclusively virtual classes, as we prioritized the health and well-being of our community. We resolved to remain closed until we could offer a spacious, health-conscious environment for our students, avoiding the overcrowded conditions common in many studios.

Our new purpose built space is more than just a yoga studio; it’s a sanctuary where the yoga experience is enriched. After class, students are encouraged to linger in the serene open-air surroundings, savoring a complimentary tea in the Roof Top Yogi Lounge, continuing their practice in the studio, or meandering through the tranquil gardens. Here, we embrace a relaxed pace, allowing everyone to exist in the moment, free from rush or urgency.

  • Nestled on a mountainside, our yoga studio is a serene escape from the hustle of city life, accessible only by a picturesque stairway leading through the jungle. A mere 20-minute stroll from the beach and a stone’s throw from the Oasis condominiums and the tranquil Cuale river, our sanctuary offers a generous 900 square feet of mostly sheltered open-air practice area. This space is a green haven, encircled by planter boxes teeming with tropical flora and fragrant blooms like heliotrope and jasmine, creating a sensory delight as you ease into savasana.

“The Yogi Lounge” awaits atop the “Zen Den”, a 400-square-foot rooftop haven where comfort meets the stunning vista of the jungle and Vallarta sprawled below. Here, guests are invited to unwind with a complimentary tea or engage in lively conversation over coffee, all while enjoying the panoramic scenery. For those who wish to extend their practice, the studio space remains open for personal use post-class. Jai and Manuel are ever-present to guide you towards the perfect asana, during or after your session.

Vallarta Breeze also caters to those seeking an immersive experience with our unique POD accommodations, ideal for multi-day workshops or group retreats. Our four King PODs, situated in a climate-controlled area adjacent to the “Zen Den,” offer a cozy, tech-equipped haven complete with streaming-ready internet TVs. Privacy and tranquility are paramount, with each POD featuring its own locking door and noise-cancelling headphones.

The experience is complemented by two private showers, boasting rainfall showerheads set high above for an indulgent experience. Fully stocked with toiletries and equipped with personal sinks and hair dryers, these shower rooms are designed to refresh and prepare you for whatever your day or evening brings.. Available to both overnight guests and day visitors (for a nominal fee).

Our kitchenette, complete with reverse osmosis water, a mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig, and all necessary dishware, offers the convenience of home for preparing light meals or snacks. It’s just another way we ensure your time with us at Vallarta Breeze is as relaxing as possible whether you are with us for a yoga class or for the night, the amenities are yours to enjoy.

  • At Vallarta Breeze Yoga, our premier "Daily Dose Series" is crafted to provide a comprehensive physical and mental regimen. Each week, participants engage in five distinct sessions that work in concert to fortify the body’s flexibility and strength complemented by pranayama and/or meditation to sharpen and soothe the mind. Our teaching philosophy is grounded in practicality, emphasizing bodily alignment, mental serenity, and nervous system health. We steer clear of mystical or mythological teachings, focusing instead on tangible, anatomical and neurological understanding. Our ultimate objective is to empower our students to achieve their peak physical, mental, and emotional well-being. GO TO RESERVATIONS

Instructor Japheth Salsbery ERYT500

Japheth / Jai

Lead Instructor

Jai has been practicing yoga since 1999 and teaching daily classes since 2018, both public and private. He is a registered ERYT500 teacher with additional certificates in YIN yoga, Pranayama and Yoga Nidra. Jai is a pragmatic teacher, your development and wellbeing are his top priority.

That said, a typical class with Japheth is a practice that is focused on:

         - Gaining or regaining flexibility and range of motion to achieve more freedom in the body, building strength and balance to enhance physical confidence and competence through the safe and mindful practice of classic and modern asana
       - Pranayama, breath control and breath-based movement to regulate the nervous system and bring present moment awareness.
        - Mental discipline by practicing finding moments of equanimity while the body is under stress. If you can keep your mind serine and your face relaxed while in a challenging asana, you can do the same in the board room, with family situations, and if you really apply yourself, maybe even while on the phone with the cable company.

Performing a complex or challenging pose is a great achievement and lots of fun, the real value of Yoga though as Jai sees it, is how you carry the practice into the world with you and how it impacts the freedom and enjoyment of your daily life.

On a personal note, Jai is a lover of all animals tame or wild. He is a dog daddy to three big dogs and a cat daddy to two feline furballs not to mention the countless neighborhood dogs that come running for hugs and kisses. Nature and gardening rate close to his love of yoga and critters, so much so that he turned his urban backyard in the pacific northwest into a densely planted ‘Food Forest’. He is having a lot of fun learning how to garden in the tropical environment of his new home in Puerto Vallarta, he has already grown bananas, papayas, starfruit, and Mangos on the property! Jai is a self-proclaimed introvert, recharging when alone and depleting in social situations, but under the right circumstances, when impassioned, you can hardly shut him up!

Instructor Victor Manuel RYT 200

Victor Manuel’s yoga journey began in 2013 when his now husband, Jai, dragged him along to class. Not surprisingly, Victor Manuel quickly became teachers pet and rapidly advanced in his practice. After his first class, he saw the value in daily practice and has maintained a consistent practice since then. In 2018 Victor Manuel made the decision to become a teacher and attended a YTT200 course. Since then, Victor Manuel has been a staple in the Vallarta Breeze Yoga studio he opened shortly after with Japheth. After covid, Victor Manuel shifted his focus to teaching Virtual classes and is now aiding Jai in many group studio classes.

Victor Manuel’s classes tend to be fun and fiery but accessable for all levels.

Why Yoga?

Our bodies aren’t adapted to this modern life of sitting in chairs for much of the day, hunching over personal electronics, remaining stationary through work, school, Netflix binges etc. Our brains also are certainly not adapted to deal with the constant overload of information and stimulation that comes with modern society. How often during the day is your mind completely detached from your body?

Yoga translates to “Union” and that is the ultimate goal of yoga, to bring together the Mind and Body as we engage in our practice then out into the world.

Yoga helps to undo some of the damage that has happened to our bodies through daily modern life, eases the stressed mind and begins to change the trajectory of our health to a more positive direction. Yoga with Jai is designed to stretch tight muscles, loosen tight joints, strengthen and stabilize your entire body while nurturing inner strength and calm. You will become familiar with muscles and inner strength you didn’t know you had!

Each persons yoga journey is unique but typically it starts out being a very physical practice which could last weeks or years. Once you have broken through the initial weakness, tightness and imbalance in the body and you become more comfortable with the physical practice, you will be able to begin refining the workings of the mind (partly by finding a calm, steady, focused mind while the body is under pressure) and when the workings of the mind are well refined you can begin to experience a deep sense of well being which may be attributable to the Mind and Body having achieved union. Your mileage may vary! Some folks find that their first class is a powerful experience of Union and others work towards it for a lifetime. One thing is for certain though, no matter how far your practice takes you, working toward a healthier, stronger, happier you is always a worthwhile endeavor .
